Is this fear of mice legitimate?

I am deathly afraid of mice, and we've had two in the house in the past 6-8 months, these are the only two we've ever had and we've lived here for the past 8 years. I walked around every single day feeling sick with nervousness. Is this at all legitimate, or was that just an unusual occurrence?

Help!Is this fear of mice legitimate?
Really, there's no true reason to be frightened of mice. :)

Compared to them, you're the Empire State Building. Mice are tiny, and mostly terrified of you. That's why it's rare to see them.

However, many people are afraid of the little guys.

Where are you located? In the winter, or colder climates, mice will often try to find ways into your home so that they will be warm. Hence why you may have seen them recently.

Best advice, Take a breath, they won't hurt you, and they're not out to sent you to the loony bin. :)

I can name a few events but I dont remember what page they were primarily on. I'm doing a project after having read the book.

Also what exactly is Auditory and Visual Imagery? Thanks in advance!

P.S. The book was great! What page in ';Of Mice and Men'; by John Stienbeck can I find a quote/passage representing symbolism?
first of all, it depends on what version of the book you have.not all page numbers will be exactly the same.

second of all, symbolism representing what?

visual imagery would be steinbeck going into depth about what something looks like (he definitely likes to do that)

auditory: i'm guessing it would be imagery that doesn't pertain to the sight sense?

Of Mice and Men, How is Lennie killing the mouse tragically ironic?

Lennie killing the mouse is tragically ironic because he loved the mouse why would he want to kill it. It is tragic because of death and ironic because if you love someone you wouldn't want to kill them would you? Lennie simply wants something to pet, he doesn't want to hurt anyone or anything!

  • Is it bad to let my cat eat the mice he catches?

Okay, my kitty loves to catch mice. I love to rescue cute little animals. When he brings them in- still alove, I try to set them free but they come back inside within minutes and he gets them again.

Well, a few times he brought them to me dead. More an more often, I'm asuming he takes them away to play with them lately because I keep taking them away and throwing them outside.

Last night I placed him in the tub (easy to clean and it's where I always save the mice because they can't escape and I can catch them later tossing them outside) and atempted to rescue his latest catch but it was already dead. Out of curiosity I let him play with it (in the tub still, no mouse blood on my carpet!!) to see what he would do. Well, after five minutes he tried eating it. I tossed it out.

Now, I am wondering is it okay to let my cat eat the mouse. I'm worried about the parasites mice might carry. I know my cat licks his own bum and all but still. Would it be bad/unhealthy to let him eat mice???Is it bad to let my cat eat the mice he catches?
I can't believe no one has mentioned the likelihood of your cat catching worms from mice! Many species of worm live in mice, this is the most common way for cats to get worms.

If your cat is going to eat mice (and he can certainly eat the whole thing if he wants) you need to worm him at least every 3 months. Use a proper wormer from the vet that treats roundworms and tapeworms, get your vet to advise you.

Eating mice is of course natural instinct for the cat - that's their diet in the wild. My cat would catch mice, and if I didn't get rid of them right away she would eat the entire thing apart from one little white organ. She always left that.

Keep him wormed and you should be fine!

ChaliceIs it bad to let my cat eat the mice he catches?
I dont think the cat will eat it maybe chew on it alittle, anyway good to know your cat isnt lazy.
    NO its not Bad!!!!!!!
My cat always ate mice. Im a sucker for those little critters too. But seeing i had such a mouse problem i had no trouble letting her go after them. I think really the only thing you should watch out for is rat or mouse bait though. Some people may lay poisons down in there houses or outside to kill them off. Nothing is worse than the poison passing from the mouse to the cat if its still alive.
The cats go to the horse barns at the track so there are plenty of mice with all the grain and feed. But my cats are are pretty lazy (or slow) and don't catch them very often. Usually they'll wait until one of the neighbor's cat catches one then bully them and take it away or wait until they drop it, then snag it!

Only one of my cats them eats them though (a tortie calico). The rest play with them. It is the food chain, so it is normal. The wild barn cats live on them, and none of them are skinny or sick.

I have had the my cats bring their 'catch of the day' in the house when I wasn't looking, play with them, and let the mice get away. I finally had to get electronic mouse traps...I caught 10 mice in the house!
    i think they jusy play
Renaissance raises a good point. A lot of people lay poisons out to kill mice and other pests without regard to pets or wildlife. Even an indoor cat would stalk and/or kill a mouse if it comes inside its home, so it was always a big worry for me when I saw a mouse in the house. Because I live in a condo, the little mice can travel thru the walls, and I have no idea what my neighbors might be doing to repel them.
Your cat is at high risk for Heart Worm. That's one thing you don't wan't your cat to have. It's preventable with a simple Vet visit and heart worm meds. Mice are carriers of those and other parasites. You might want to get it anyway to prevent any risk. You can prevent heart worm and other parasites more than you can prevent your cat from eating a mouse.
It's better not to let the cat eat them. Mice carry many diseases, including toxoplasmosis, which is then incubated in cats and multiplying and that is a problem for pregnant women. (They usually don't get it from the cat, because it is in the cat's feces which people usually avoid, so it has nothing to do with having a cat and being or not being pregnant, but it is important to keep our cats toxoplasma-free, because their feces lying around transfer nd multiply the bacteria and other animals get them, and then if we eat the other animals we get them too). And mice may have other bacteria too, which cause problems to the cat.
Its food, no problem. They are natural hunters, before they were domesticated ( and eating Purina ) they lived in the outdoors eating mice and other critters.
It's totally natural and OK for cats to eat mice. This is like asking if it's bad for fish to swim in water.
its natural cats are hunters just like their ig cousins the lions now if you think of it that way would you every tyake a hard earned kill from a lion i dont think so i just wouldnt set out any poisins for the mice and if you live close to anyone else i would ask if they have been setting out mouse poison just to be on the safe side
I wouldn't want my cat to eat any of those rodents if they have been eating rat poison yeah!!! But suppose these people are right when they say some cats just want to play with the rats! Which is probably a good exercise for your furry friend ;-)
I wouldn't let him eat mice...if possible. I don't think cats even eat mice, they just play, even my cat is like 18 in human years and she still LOVES to catch mice, but she never eats them.
    No! it's healthy

According to Dr. harold gump when the genes of a dirty, poisonous and extremely horny mouse get inside in the body of your stupid cat it is not neccesarilly mean hazardous to it's health but it can cause severe cancer to your ugly bitchy cat

What does the title ';Of Mice and Men'; mean?

In addition, from what poem, by what author does Steinbeck take the title? What does the title ';Of Mice and Men'; mean?
The meaning of the novel’s title serves as a comparison between strong people and weak people. The mice refer to the weak characters such as Lennie, Candy, Curley’s wife, and Crooks. The men refer to the strong characters like Slim and George. Steinbeck’s title comes from the poem by Robert Burns’ “To a Mouse”.

What are the least dangerous animals in the world; polar bears or mice?

Between those two, polar bears are less dangerous. Very few people have been foolish enough to approach a polar bear to be attacked. Mice, on the other hand, spread diseases that have killed millions over the years. What are the least dangerous animals in the world; polar bears or mice?
Polar bears are the extremely aggressive and will go after any large mammal including humans, however MANY more humans in the world come in contact with mice, which carry diseases.

So if you're a human, mice.

If you're a seal living in the north pole, then polar bears.

I did read the book but need help on my Of Mice and Men essay?

There is supposed symbolism in the title ';Of Mice and Men';. I think it is just that Lennie likes mice and he is a man, who doesn't know his own strength and throughout the books, kills mice, puppies, and finally, Curley's wife; but is it more than just Lennie being a man who likes mice?I did read the book but need help on my Of Mice and Men essay?
Actually the title has nothing to do with Lennie and mice. The title comes from a Robert Burns poem To A Mouse On Turning Up Her Nest With A Plough - The best laid schemes o' mice an' men

Gang aft agley, Or to translate this into English The best plans of mice and men often go astray. If there is any symbolism to be suggested here, it would be ';Are you a man or a mouse?'; as Lennie does not stick up for himself.

Why is George justified in killing Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men?

Of Mice and Men is a novella written by Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. Published in 1937, it tells the tragic story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers during the Great Depression in California.

    Based on Steinbeck's own experiences as a bindle stiff in the 1920s (before the arrival of the Okies he would vividly describe in The Grapes of Wrath), the title is taken from Robert Burns's poem, To a Mouse, which is often quoted as: ';The best-laid plans of mice and men/often go awry,'; though the phrase in the original Scots of the poem is ';The best laid schemes o' mice an' men/Gang aft agley.';

I think so. He saved poor Lennie from a heluva lot of misery.

I have 4 female mice and 2 males. How soon until one gets pregnant?

I don't know how often mice reproduce. Should I be expecting one of the female to become pregnant? I have 4 frmales and 2 males.I have 4 female mice and 2 males. How soon until one gets pregnant?
Expect all your females to be pregos in no time. Expect to have so many mice you wont know what to do with them.

Be ready to start cleaning cages and trying to get rid of the wild mice who will get into your home, they smell the pet mice.

Breeding mice without having somewhere for them to go only causes stress. Hopefully you have contact in the pet shops or reptile people. I sold five hundred bucks worth of mice to one pet shop in 4 weeks at a buck a piece. There is money in it, just have to keep that smell down. I had a building which I breed mine in, also other forms of rodents.....it was fun and I stayed real busy...

Good luck and have a few cages to separate everyone, you will have mice like I said coming out your ears here soon enough.I have 4 female mice and 2 males. How soon until one gets pregnant?
As long as they are mature they should start making babies really soon. Maybe within a month or so.
I assume you are wanting to breed these mice to feed to your bearded dragon? Please read this:

    ';The feeding of live bait to reptiles is extremely cruel to both species鈥he pain on the mouse/rat/chicken'ss side is obvious, but did you also know if your pet isn鈥檛 hungry and allows the food item to run around the cage, said food item has been known to attack and harm your pet? Always feed your exotic pets pre (humanely) killed food. Of course, really you will never know whether your food was killed humanely or not鈥rom the looks of the frozen mice and rats you get to feed large snakes, they are simply frozen alive.';

female mice will be able to breed at around for weeks of age. i used to breed mice. you can expect a litter about every three weeks.
Well iv kept pet rats for some years now. They breed At about 11 months of age and in summer. Sometimes they will not breed because they are stressed. The most babys my rats had was 15 but on other accasions i have only had 9. There are also many websites that have loads of info on rats. It also depends on what type of rats your keeping. If there special rats they will breed often. If there normal rats they wont breed as much. :)

How do I get over my fear of Lizards and mice?

Most Psychologist will tell you the best way to get over any fear is to confront them. You need to spend time around them. I wouldnt go diving head first into a bin of them, but find someone who has them, someone that is understanding and patient and willing to help you overcome the fears. Just take baby steps. For 10 minutes just stay in the room by them. Ask the person to hold them near you but dont touch them. That person should NEVER try to tease you or scare you with them, they should just hold them out of the cage in there hands, near you. Then keep doing just that untill your fear subsides and then just take closer steps till your comfortable. Eventually have the person stand next to you with them, and eventually you can graduate to hold or touch them. You dont have to like every animal in the world, there is no law that says you have to like Mice and lizards, but fearing them to the point of a problem isnt healthy its a mental block. So just being in proximity of them is the first step to recovery. Dont feel bad though I love all animals and handle just about everything but I have an unresonable fear of get this.... Crickets. Not every cricket just Brown Crickets. I tell ya give me a bat, snake, snail. leech, beetle, any day. BUT DONT GET NEAR ME WITH BROWN CRICKETS EEEEK. I told ya its weird. How do I get over my fear of Lizards and mice?
why do you need to get over it...just avoid lizards and mice...shouldn't be that hard to do.How do I get over my fear of Lizards and mice?
face it. i got over my fear of heights by facing it, but i still have a fear of gekos with bright eyes. i dont know why but they scare me, i can't go near them when i enter a pet shop. i also had a fear of playing my french horn in front of people, like in a solo, or for an audition, and i just recently got superior rateings for a solo a duet and an ensamble. if you face your fears you can be realy happy, and you will never regret it.

good luck, by the way texelgirl2 gave the best answer you could use.
start by being near them then petting and eventually holding them

    How do you breed mice?

I love mice and have a perfect place for them. So don't tell me how hard it can be. I want to breed some of those little tiny feeder mice and keep them as pets. Also how many pinkies will i get. Ten points for best answer. How do you breed mice?
Well you need a boy and a girl... lol jks

I suggest you start with just one female and one male (Until you get use to breeding then you can add more females). You need to make sure there is little holes or spaces where the mice can get out, they tend to chew the cage and try to get out, SO MAKE YOUR CAGE MICE PROOF.

The babies will take an average of 19-21 days to be born(You will get around 9-10 but can get 20!) and will need a schedule around 12 hours of night and 12 hours of day.

For the bedding you could use newspaper, aspen chips if you can find any, they have no oils so they would be the safest, cedar or pine shavings or just the stuff you can purchase from a pet store would work.

Oh yea and when the mice are born you will have to remove the male or he will try to eat the babies!

For their diet they will drink from their mother but when they are old enough they will just eat ordinary mouse food.

Good luck with you mice and if you need any more info just look up ';How To Breed Mice'; in google :)How do you breed mice?
They do all of the work Just stick them in the same cage and they will breed endlessly. The amount of mice you will get out of each mother will not always be the same. When you do breed them, separate the other mice from the mother and the babies.
Mice are very easy to breed. You should have 5-10 pinkies per litter. Just be careful when she first has them. They bite to protect their babies when they are first born. I used to have pet rats and pet mice. They make great pets.
Put the male and female in the same cage and in 21 days you will have baby mice. They can have 1-6 or more at a time.
just let em go at it! but be sure to separate them when youve had enough!

Just found out we had mice we setup glue traps n decon traps about 7 hours ago and no results?

What can we do to get it to come out of hidingJust found out we had mice we setup glue traps n decon traps about 7 hours ago and no results?
Depending on how many rodents you have as to how often they will make themselves available to your traps. Many folks find the glue traps do not eliminate their problem. If that in the case with you, you might give the Rat Zapper a look see. It is guaranteed to work!

http://ratmousezapper.com/Just found out we had mice we setup glue traps n decon traps about 7 hours ago and no results?
    You need to be patient!

7 hours is nothing. Are you standing there watching? LOL!

They mostly come out at night. It may take a few days.

The best traps are the old fashoned kind. They try to get the cheese and it snaps their neck.
Mice are active at night. Your traps may be avoided for awhile, and the poison is carried back to their nest to eat and you usually don't see the dead mice. Also they may hide the poison pellets and not eat them for awhile. I don't like the glue traps because the mouse gets stuck, not dead and then you either let them suffer or have to kill them. Spring traps are usually a quick death, but you have to release the dead body or throw the whole trap away.
Just go to bed and wait until tomorrow. They won't come out if they know you're around.
