I actually train the mice to come to a spot where dogs and children have no access.
I generally choose a location in closet that I can lock to keep dogs and children out while I am getting rid of the mice.
I train the mice to go to the closet. I do that by first putting food (without poison) in that spot. After about a week all of the mice in the building will learn to go to the spot where I have put food.
This way I do not have to trap mice all over the building.
Mice (and rats) seem to be able to detect most poisons and often will refuse food (including chocolate) with poison unless they have become accustomed to eating that food in that location.
Generally I use pieces of sweet chocolate which mice also love. The chocolate does not leave a mess like peanut butter.
It takes about one week to get the mice trained to go to one spot for the chocolate.
Then I add a poison to the chocolate. Once the mice have become accustomed to eating chocolate in that location, you can now add poison to the chocolate and the mice will continue to eat it.
I choose a poison that causes mice to look for water before they die.
That way the mice leave the building and I do not have to dispose of dead mice.
Glue traps and snap traps work, but then you are left with the traps and dead mice to dispose of.
I prefer not to have to dispose of the mice and the traps.
This also works with rats.
I have found that this works very well. How do I get rid of mice?
Mice live in the walls and come out around the spots where the pipes go into the walls under sinks and the such. They also chew holes through the walls under cabinets.
There is a type of mouse poison that comes in green pellets that look like alf alfa pellets. Englarge the area around the pipes under the sink, drop a few pellets inside the wall where the kids and cats can't get to them. In a couple of days no more mouse problem.
Seal up the holes around the pipes with sheet rock compound. It sells for about $5 for a quart at the home improvement store. Pick it up at the same time you pick up the pellets. Use it like putty, smear it around the pipes to seal the holes.
I had the same problem in my house as well. The best thing that worked for me was peanut butter on the traps. I used both glue traps and snap traps too. It is the easiest solution since I have dogs and little ones in the house too. You should set them up at night and not during the day because they don't come put as much. Just use lots of peanut butter and I guarantee you that you will catch them. Maybe some meat on them too but seperated from the peanut butter taps. Good luck.
Would you like to expand on the answer you gave me? Or is it a false claim to try and get some attention?
I had a feeling that might be the case.
get glue traps, and put peanut butter clump right in the middle! they loooove peanut butter, even crunch n munch. trust me ive done it alot! it works fast!!
