Why are elephants afraid of mice?

I asked a local zoo and they had no answer for me.Why are elephants afraid of mice?
They are not, that is a myth.

Elephants have no reason to scared of mice, their teeth are not large enough to really do any damage and disputesome people seem it is possible, mice CANNOT run up an elephants trunk and eat their brain.

Elephants however are smart and will be cautious of something that is new or can be startled by something that happens suddenly.

For example I have been cleaning the house and had my headphones on. My husband just came in and I did not hear or see him and suddenly he was there and I did jump and he did scare the crap out of me. But, I am not scared of my husband.

Elephants are the same way, they are not scared of mice but if one suddenly appears in a location they might not have been expecting them they can be startled. Why are elephants afraid of mice?
They are NOT it is a myth....

An exerpt from that link...

'; It's not clear where the idea came from, but many people have theorized that elephants might be afraid of mice because they fear that the tiny creatures will crawl inside their trunks, irritating or blocking them. Elephants in captivity have been exposed to mice because they are frequently found in and around the elephants' feed (hay). Many caretakers have observed mice crawling on the trunks and faces of (awake) elephants and observed that the elephants take absolutely no notice of the mice, much less express fear or anxiety in their presence. Based on observations of interactions between elephants and mice, and the apparent peaceful coexistence, it's unclear where the myth may have originated. ';
It's plausible! every one says it's a myth well maybe it is. But I think that the elephant is afraid of the mouse not because it will run up it's trunk but as a surprise and being so small the elephant does not want to stand on it.

Look at this video and you will see that the elephants did not shriek or trumpet.
They aren't.

Elephants used to be used in war, the Elephants charged into the regiments of soldiers and totally obliterated them, trampling them to death and ripping them apart.

The Romans set pigs on fire and the pigs would run at them, now that would scare the Elephants.
They're not. It's a common myth created by cartoons and the media, to symbolize something huge to be afraid of something harmless and small.

In a way, its kinda like David and Goliath.
everyone is afraid of things they just don't understand.
They're not. Only in cartoons they are.
It is a myth
